Interview: A Summer Tradeshow Recap

Today we will be interviewing Amy Johnson, VP of Catalog Sales who has been with DII for 9 years and is an expert in the wholesale gift industry. She helps run DII’s Corporate Showrooms and today we will be discussing Summer 2015 tradeshows -- specifically, AmericasMart Atlanta & Las Vegas Market! 

How was this summer's Grand Opening Showroom in Las Vegas?

"The Las Vegas Market Center is definitely working on promoting itself as a destination for Gifts. This is shown in both the new exhibitors signing leases and in the increased buyer attendance. The mart did a good job marketing and promoting the launch of Floor 11, and we are blessed to have a good front and center location. It is a lot of work to open up a new showroom, but we are optimistic the market will continue to grow as a leading gift market on the west coast.”

What are some highlights from Las Vegas Market? 

"Having the opportunity to get in front of new buyers and reconnect with those we haven’t seen in a while." 

What are some highlights from AmericasMart Atlanta?

"Seeing the new product merchandised the first time, seeing new peer products, reconnecting with customers and reps we haven’t seen in six months as well as getting to meet some of our field sales rep's key customers!"

Can you paint a picture of what our corporate showrooms are like?

"For those of you who weren’t able to attend Atlanta, our showroom there represents our entire two collections: Fall/Holiday '15 as well as our new Spring/Summer '16 lines. Everything is merchandised in a fun and eye-catching way so stores can draw inspiration for their own displays. In contrast, our Las Vegas Showroom highlights only specific collections and categories we feel is appropriate for that market and has a very clean, open and modern look to it."

Looking forward, what are some things we can expect to see for future DII showrooms?

"Definitely working more with on site and direct marketing to get in front of new customers as well as tweaking how we merchandise and what we show in order to appeal to the specific market we are working with. Additionally, adding more hospitality and service, so our customers know that we really appreciate them visiting our showroom, and appreciate their business." 

What can we expect to see in future DII product lines?

"Continued product color and motifs that are on trend. New Catagories (our candle holders and fouta towels are a hit!) -- perhaps tiptoeing more into entertaining and home decor.

We have seen an overall positive summer show season, even in some of the smaller markets and in our new showroom location in Dallas. We are very happy with the season!”
